 Abstract
Starting from the postmodernist features of polyphony and pluralism, the paper aims at exploring the way in which postmodernist American poetry reconciles a wide range of cultural perspectives and it makes room for marginal and minority voices to assert their shifting, incongruous principles and to avoid any final interpretation. Accepting the principle of difference, a reversal of structures and values takes place. Hierarchies are dissolved and the concept of identity is totally reconfigured.
