 Abstract
Adaptations of the literary sources into films are frequently seen in recent works. Adaptations of literary works regarding deconstructing the structure or the originality of the literary text change the order of the sequences or alter the written text into an illusionary scene. The changes made in the written form of the literary text intend to express the director’s perception of the events adding to the text’s meaning. Aiming to discuss the adaptation of novels for films, two of Henry James novels “The Portrait of a Lady” and “The Wings of the Dove” are studied and by questioning how America has been adapted and the adapted American image is viewed from the eyes of two young American women and the Europeans by emphasizing the similarities and dissimilarities between the texts and their adaptation in the film versions that has transformed the written literary texts into visual scenarios ‘adapting Americas in the novels adapted for films.’
